 Wednesday 28th May, 2008...........................................................Internet
Toyah will play the Devil Queen from this September in Vampires Rock, and that really is the only link to 'Rise Of The Vampyre'. But I'm really enjoying this online novel by an up and coming writer, and thought some visitors to Dreamscape might do too. The more unique visits the site receives the more chapters will be added. It's vampyretastic!

 Sensational update
 Wednesday 28th May, 2008..............................................................Music
Just a quick update on the newest Toyah song to our ears, 'Sensational'.

In the midst of Toyah's birthday, and I can only blame all the e-numbers in the sweets, cake and fizzy stuff I scoffed in her honour for affecting my brain, I referred to it as her forthcoming new single but at the moment it isn't scheduled as a single release, digital or CD. This could change though.

The next music release from Toyah will be 'Good Morning Universe - The Very Best of Toyah' two-disc CD at the end of June.

Box Office Aberdeen - Former punk icon set for a role with real bite!
 Friday 23rd May, 2008...................................................................Theatre
Toyah Willcox - Vampire Queen! is how the Box Office Aberdeen website describes Toyah in their newly published article on Vampires Rock.

Renowned rocker and TV personality Toyah Willcox has a new role she can really get her teeth into.

She will star as the Devil Queen, the long-suffering wife of Baron Von Rockula, in Steve Steinman’s Vampires Rock at Aberdeen’s Music Hall on Friday, November 14.

The show has a huge cult following, with an amazing stage set, pyrotechnics, beautiful dancers and fang-tastic rock covers from the likes of AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Queen and many more.

And of course there’s Steve Steinman’s famously powerful vocals and biting humour.

The show is set in a New York club in the year 2030, where Baron Von Rockula is fed up with the wicked ways of his Devil Queen when unsuspecting aspiring singer Pandora (Emily Clark) comes along.

Will she be a suitable replacement for the Devil Queen? Cue a host of classic rock and a hint of comedy, as the Baron and the Devil Queen try to tempt Pandora to lose her soul to rock and roll!

Music Hall Aberdeen - Steve Steinman's Vampires Rock
 Friday 23rd May, 2008...................................................................Theatre
Dates for the Vampires Rock UK tour are being confirmed by various theatre websites, including Aberdeen Music Hall.

A show like no other, with a twist of rock and a hint of musical theatre, and jam packed with the greatest anthems you know and love, you’re guaranteed to be on your feet!

Set in New York in the year 2030, the undead are among us and livelier than ever, none more so than in club ‘Live and Let Die’, where aspiring singer Pandora (Emily Clarke) arrives to audition for the resident vocalist position.

Little does she know that the only job on offer is to be the eternal bride of evil Baron Von Rockula! (Steve Steinman)

Cue a host of classic rock, played live by the Baron’s hand picked band, The Lost Boys, and a hint of comedy, as the Baron and his sidekick, Stringfellow (Mike Taylor), attempt to convince Pandora to lose her soul to rock and roll!

With songs made famous by the likes of AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Suzi Quatro, Queen and many more, you’ll be rocking in the aisles (or on your knees with your air guitar above your head!)
An amazing stage set, pyrotechnics to blow your mind, beautiful dancers and of course Steve Steinman’s famously powerful vocals and sense of humour, make sure this show is not to be missed!

Worcester News - Toyah's trek raises awareness
 Tuesday 20th May, 2008...........................................................News Clips
Worcestershire pop star Toyah Willcox took part in an extreme trek to raise money for a cancer centre.

The singer, who lives in Pershore, spent four days walking part of the Great Wall of China with a host of other personalities including Sir Cliff Richard and Dannii Minogue.

The trek has raised millions of dollars towards the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Australia, which aims to develop future cancer vaccines and therapies.

"This was a truly amazing experience," said Toyah. "I met some amazing people, not only Olivia, but the cancer survivors that were also walking with the team.

"The energy was uplifting and it had a positive influence on the group, we need to change the way the world views cancer and centres like the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre will start to do this."

It's a mystery...
Living With The Dead, showing May 20th on LIVING at 9:00pm

The exclusive fright fest Living with the Dead continues on LIVING this week. This chilling series features terrorised families from across the country who all claim to be sharing their homes with ghosts and spirits. Helping the families quell the unrest which is blighting their lives are psychic mediums Johnnie Fiori and Ian Lawman - who has communicated with the Kray twins - and paranormal investigator Mark Webb.

This week's episode sees the team travel to Worcestershire, and the haunted home of singer and actress Toyah Willcox. Toyah's house is 80 yards from Pershore Abbey - which dates back to the seventh century - and it is thought that its cellar was once used to store the abbey's food. The abbey's history is steeped in controversy: its one time owner, Duke Alphere, lived a life of crime, and legend holds he was eventually eaten alive by vermin. The behaviour of the monks at the abbey is also suspect - letters from the 15th century suggest they indulged in drinking, fighting and gambling, and one of their number even committed murder. Perhaps due to its links with the abbey, the strongest presence in Toyah's house is felt in the cellar, and Toyah herself has witnessed a shadowy figure in the area on many occasions.

Toyah also reports seeing shadowy figures in other rooms, and recalls one terrifying night when she woke up suddenly to see her bedroom door handle turning and the door slowly opening. The attic light often turns itself on in the middle of the night, ornaments have been sent flying across rooms by unseen forces, and Toyah also reports strange smells throughout the house. In an attempt to drive out the dark forces that lurk in the house, Toyah - joined by her celebrity friends Rula Lenska and Ruth Madoc - enlists the team to perform a séance.

Living Within - 1980's Pop Fest At Ascot Racecourse
 Saturday 17th May, 2008..........................................................Press Clips
No less than seven top artistes from the 1980s will perform a spectacular finale to racing at Ascot on Saturday 9th August. Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Bananarama, Belinda Carlisle, Paul Young, ABC, T’Pau and Toyah will each perform some of their greatest hits as part of the “Hear And Now” tour.

The two hour set will follow straight on from the increasingly popular Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, the world’s premier international jockeys’ tournament, where Great Britain will take on teams from Ireland, Europe and the Rest of the World.

Hit songs like Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer”, T’Pau’s “China in Your Hand” and Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” will ring out from a stage in the old paddock shortly after the last of the six races.

Tony Denton of promoters Here And Now said: “I am extremely pleased to have the “Here And Now” show play its first concert at Ascot Racecourse. All the artistes are so looking forward to playing the unique show in such an amazing setting.”

Toyah Willcox added: “I am thrilled to be playing Ascot. It has always been an ambition to visit such a legendary venue.”

Nick Smith, Head of PR at Ascot Racecourse said: “The combination of a popular musical act and the new four team competition format was a tremendous success last year when we achieved a record attendance of over 27,000. We’re sticking with that winning formula and look forward to another successful Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup day in August.”

Tickets start from £20 and go on sale today at the Ascot Box Office: 0870 727 1234 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday or 24/7 from www.ascot.co.uk. Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more. Children aged 16 and under are free.

Daily Mirror - Are these the worst haircuts in pop music?
 Saturday 17th May, 2008 • Thanks to AW.................................Press Clips
Those beautiful and perfect people at UK tabloid the 'Daily Mirror' ran another of their highly positive features on Wednesday. But at least they printed a cool picture of Toyah from 1985 when she was promoting her 'Minx' album.

In pictures: Are these the worst haircuts in pop music?

First Amy Winehouse set the bar for riduculous rugs with her preposterous beehive and bad home-dye jobs, then this week Oasis star Liam Gallagher is snapped in the paper sporting a weird bobbed new do which wasn't even his first bad-hair day.

In fact, popstars have always provided rich pickings for bad barnet style, so here we round up some of the worst offenders when it comes to follicular fashion crimes.

Toyah: Though we'd have preferred a still of her hair in the video for her 1982 single Brave New World, we'll settle for hairspray-induced horror instead. This epitomises the 'up-at-the-sides, artful-teased-fringe' hair nightmare that many followers of fashion inflicted on themselves in the Eighties.

Easier Lifestyle - Billie Piper to reprise call girl role
 Thursday 15th May, 2008.........................................................Press Clips
Billie Piper is back as Belle in a second series of Secret Diary Of A Call Girl on ITV2. The series that achieved record audiences of more than two million in 2007 returns to the channel for a further eight episodes in September 2008.

Based on the best-selling, real life diaries of an upmarket escort, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl allows us a deeper look into the world of the glamorous and intelligent Belle de Jour (Billie Piper) – Hannah to her family.

Belle is now a high-class independent escort. Unintentionally befriended by the bubbly but clingy Bambi (Ashley Madekwe – Trial & Retribution, Drop Dead Gorgeous), Belle finds herself an unwilling mentor to this wannabe call girl. And while her best friend Ben (Iddo Goldberg), the only person who knows about her secret life, seems to be settling down into domestic bliss, Belle is throwing herself into her work.

 Celebrating Toyah's 50th Birthday
 Tuesday 13th May, 2008 • Thanks to AW/Craig/Paul....................Toyah50
To celebrate Toyah's 50th Birthday - It's a competition with a great collection of Toyah goodies as the prize. There's original Toyah make-up packs, amazing fan-made 'Anthem', 'The Blue Meaning' and 'The Video Singles' DVDs, Calamity Jane programme, promo flyer and London Theatre Guide booklet, various other promo flyers and a collection of Toyah photographs.

To be in with a chance of winning the Toyah swag please answer the following:

Q.How many studio albums did Toyah release in the 1980's?

Email your answer to david@toyah.net by 11.59pm on Saturday 17th May 2008. Winner will be announced right here on Toyah's birthday and notified by email.

NB: Just to clarify: 'The Lady Or The Tiger' is a Toyah/Robert Fripp album (and isn't a music release anyway), and 'Mayhem' is, for all intents and purposes, a compilation album. So, neither of these are included in the "studio" album total.

"It's not all hocus pocus. There are qualified doctors and practitioners here and everyone is welcome. It's about sharing knowledge and being open to new ideas."

Surrey Advertiser - Toyah delighted to cultivate an interest in Wisley
 Saturday 10th May, 2008..........................................................Press Clips
Fans of the 80s are in for a quadruple treat this summer as four of the decade’s biggest names come together for one night only.

Belinda Carlisle, Nick Heyward, Toyah and Clare Grogan's Altered Images will take to the stage at the Wisley Music Festival, and Toyah for one is a fan of the RHS garden’s style.

“It’s always a privilege to look out on to the audience at these wonderful places on a beautiful summer’s night,” she said.

“I love these kinds of events. It’s such a fantastic way to help preserve our culture and our historic buildings. It’s one of the best jobs in the world, and I take away so many memories.

“And there is always such an eclectic audience. I remember at one event there was a group of people who’d brought along a full dining table complete with candelabras and servants. It was hysterical.”

Describing her fellow performers as the “usual motley crew”, Toyah said audiences at the festival would be treated to all the hits.

“The great thing about us is that people fell in love listening to Belinda, dated to Nick and probably got expelled from school listening to me.

“These songs mean so many different things to people and it's wonderful to see them now bringing their children along to discover some great music.”

The Stars of the 80s show is at the Wisley Music Festival on Friday, June 13.

Shropshire Star - Packed Programme for Summer
 Friday 9th May, 2008................................................................Press Clips
A packed programme of events including performances by hit singer Katie Melua and 1980s music icons will be wowing the crowds in Shrewsbury this summer.

Managers were today launching this year’s Shrewsbury Summer Season, after securing a variety of celebrities, theatre productions and concerts that they hope will make this year’s festivities as popular as ever.

The five-month season brings together the town’s summer events and includes an 80s concert and performance by Katie Melua in The Quarry.

Other highlights of this year’s season include a performance by tenor Willard White. Other major events are Shrewsbury Folk Festival and the Shrewsbury International Street Theatre Festival.

The 80s concert will feature the county’s hit group T’Pau who will share the billing with Heaven 17, Nick Heyward and Toyah.

Summer Season steering group chairman John Moore said: “We’ve built our reputation on variety and quality and this year’s programme certainly reflects that.

“In the Shrewsbury Summer Season, Shropshire has an event to be proud of. We hope to be able to maintain the standard in future years for residents and visitors alike.”

The programme of events, which was being launched at the Lion Hotel, will run from May until September.

There will be 100 days of concerts, exhibitions and events that will cover a variety of tastes and interests.

Mr Moore added: “As the Theatre Severn nears completion on the banks of the River Severn, the sense of purpose and evolution that flows past it and around it is symbolised by the Summer Season.

“A season that has been and we hope will continue to be borne out of partnership between local government and the community, both making the best sense of the other, working towards common, shared goals of excellence and entitlement for the inhabitants of Shrewsbury and the county of Shropshire.”

For details visit www.shrewsburysummer.co.uk or call (01743) 281281. Leaflets will also be available around the town.

On-line picture display as Birmingham punk star Toyah Willcox hits 50

A cavalcade of iconic photos from Birmingham punk star Toyah Willcox are to be displayed in a special on-line gallery as she marks her 50th birthday this month.

Fans are also set to vote on their favourite songs to create a Top 50 at the same time as she turns a half century on May 18.

Organisers of the Toyah website and her fans want to impress the Kings Heath-born singer with their efforts.

Toyah, who now lives in Pershore, Worcestershire, shot to fame with her striking punk image in the early 1980s.

The picture gallery will include some of her most famous shots when she stood rebelliously with bright pink hair in a mohican style - a far cry from the New Romantics who were emerging at that time.

"Toyah will be turning 50 next month and we have some online celebrations planned to mark the momentous occasion all of which will be unveiled on the day itself," said a spokesman for the web gallery.

"There will also be a brand new gallery room spotlighting 50 images spanning Toyah’s career from classic ’80s shots to the most recent looks created for Toyah’s YouTube and MySpace videos.

"If fans can vote for their top 10 Toyah songs too, it will help us compile The Official Toyah Top 50 with the results revealed on her birthday."

Toyah is a former pupil at Edgbaston C of E College and trained as an actress at the Old Rep Drama School, in Birmingham, before appearing in Derek Jarman’s 1977 film Jubilee.

But it was her move to punk rock that boosted her star status with hits including I Want To Be Free, Thunder In The Mountains and Brave New World.

She still records songs but is commonly seen on TV shows, including I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004.

Fans should email their list of 10 favourite Toyah songs to top50@toyahwillcox.com by Wednesday, May 14.

Digital Spy - Willcox discusses spirit exorcism
 Tuesday 6th May, 2008............................................................Press Clips
Toyah's 'Digital Spy' interview led to a "spin off" on that site yesterday, which was their top showbiz news story for most of Bank Holiday Monday.

Toyah Willcox has admitted that she was spooked when a séance was held at her home.

Appearing on the new Living series Living with the Dead, the TV presenter agreed to let medium Ian Lawman summon spirits that had been haunting her 16th century property.

Although Willcox confessed she wasn't scared of her paranormal visitors, she told DS that Lawman's séance startled her.

Willcox said: "I live in an incredibly old house - the oldest part of it is [from] 1510 - and there's a lot of activity in it, but none of it scares me. I said, 'Please don’t get rid of any of the spirits here, I've got very used to them and don't have a problem with them.'

"That said, when Ian Lawman came in, some pretty amazing things happened. Two of the sceptics got possessed and we had to do an exorcism. After that I said to Ian, 'Look, you’re going to leave me alone in this house, you can bloody well clear it of anything that's going to make my life hell!'"

Willcox added that one of the sceptics taking part was possessed by a suicide, something she describes as "very, very sad".

"I said during the filming that I didn't want it to continue and [asked for] the person to be moved on."

Living with the Dead airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Living.

Art & About Magazine - Toyah selects paintings for Apartment
 Tuesday 6th May, 2008............................................................News Clips
'Art & About' magazine reported recently on Toyah choosing paintings from the Galerie Monaco for her French home.

Properties in Menton on the French Riviera have arranged with Galerie Monaco and Toyah Willcox to hang a selection of original paintings by artists John Dyer and Joanne Short in the Rock Star’s fabulous Old Town Apartment in Menton. Toyah was taken with the artists work when she recently visited the offices of A+ Properties and made a request to have her apartment hung with the new paintings from the artists’ Côte d’Azur collection.

The paintings are on display for a series of magazine and TV articles that are being organised over the next couple of months. The Mail on Sunday and ‘Through the KeyHole’ are arranging photo shoots at the apartment with the star and the paintings by the artists will feature in the articles.

Your fantastic paintings not only brought the apartment to life, but also put the energy of the Riviera indoors!Toyah Willcox 2008
