Toyah’s Wonderful World Of Weird
Mrs. Charleston’s Balcony
An original short story
Written & read by Toyah Willcox
A brand new short story – the tenth – written by and narrated by Toyah!
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Wonderful World of Weird returns with a typically wonderful Toyah tale.
“I have always loved short stories, they can inhabit any world from suburbia to the fantastic. When time is short and long distances need to be travelled, the short story has taken me to places i willingly want to go to. So whether you have five minutes to spare, or you want to escape for a while…join me and my love of the unpredictable. Welcome to Toyah’s Wonderful World of Weird…”

Toyah’s latest blog – the second of 2026 – is available to read at toyahwillcox.com. Including exciting news on a potential new album – working title Secret World – but the idea of a track/single released each month sounds equally appealing! Toyah also pays tribute to, wonderful, Catherine O’Hara, who the world lost last week.
Official Toyah celebrates the 45th anniversary of the release of the Four From Toyah EP.
Forty five years ago this month…… the Four From Toyah EP was released and provided Toyah’s breakthrough chart hit that reached the top 10. Look out for future posts marking this anniversary.

Toyah’s first blog of 2026 is available to read at toyahwillcox.com, and it’s a great read. Toyah talks the New Year, plans for 2026, a new Quadrophenia project/film, and working with legendary photographers, including David Bailey and Terence Donovan.
• 2026 is also the 45th anniversary of Anthem‘s release too, hence the banner above. This website, and Toyah Fanzine, will be celebrating #Anthem45 this year… Anthem was reissued in deluxe formats four years ago and much homage was paid to the album, but as 2026 marks the 50th year of Toyah’s career, we’re planning on looking back at some of the most iconic moments, and Anthem is certainly one of those!

Christmas 2025, and Official Toyah recalls Christmas 1980…
Broadcast 45 years ago tonight…. The documentary ‘Toyah’ on ATV
ATV decided to profile Toyah in a documentary, directed by filmmaker Graham Moore. This was a significant
coup for Toyah, securing an hour of prime-time TV as an ‘up and coming’ recording artist. It was produced by ATV, the Midlands franchise of ITV but networked across the ITV regions on 18 December 1980.
The documentary meant cameras followed Toyah’s weekly activity for several months. This included photo shoots, in-store record signings, television appearances including Straight Talk, rehearsals for Nigel Williams’ controversial play Sugar And Spice and band rehearsals at Toyah’s live-in Battersea warehouse ‘Mayhem’.
