.Donald Hewlett 1922 - 2011
Wednesday 29th June, 2011
We are once again sad to report the passing of a well loved cast member of several David Croft comedies, Donald Hewlett.

Donald will be best remembered as Colonel Reynolds in all eight series of It Ain't Half Hot Mum which ran from 1974 until 1981. It was in this series he formed an on-screen comedy partnership with Michael Knowles which continued in Come Back Mrs. Noah (1978) and most memorably in You Rang, M'Lord ? (1988 - 1993) which saw them paired as Lord George Meldrum and his younger brother Teddy.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, Donald appeared in many top rated series such as Coronation Street, Doctor Who, The Avengers, Are You Being Served ? and The Dick Emery Show. He was also seen in the films Carry On Behind and Adolf Hitler - My Part In His Downfall.

Our sympathies go out to Donald's wife, Therese McMurray, and his children at this sad time.

.Annie 2011: 'Cambs Times' Review
Monday 9th May, 2011 Theatre Review
The Broadway Theatre, Peterborough
By Kelly Felstead

If heart-warming rags-to-riches tales are your cup of tea the all-time classic Annie might be the musical to get your toes tapping and heart thumping. Currently touring around the country, this new production stopped off last week at The Broadway Theatre, Peterborough, for a five-night-run.

Starring former Hi-de-Hi actress Su Pollard as Miss Hannigan, the cruel, drunk orphanage owner, and David McAlister as Oliver Warbucks, this lively and thoroughly entertaining show was certainly well received by the audience.

Su’s excellent portrayal of Miss Hannigan, staggering across the stage taking dramatic sips from a bottle, was more humorous than nasty tyrant and got many laughs and claps from an amused audience.

.Annie 2011: 'North Devon Journal' Review
Monday 9th May, 2011 Theatre Review
Theatre Royal, Plymouth
By Catherine Fraser

Such is the affection in which Annie is held that the audience at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth on opening night were clapping along to a medley of songs from the show played by the orchestra before the curtain even went up. They were still clapping – and singing and standing – after the final curtain had fallen two and a half hours later.

Su Pollard, much-loved for her role in Hi-De-Hi, brought real humour to the role of the wicked, drunken orphanage manager and showed she has lost none of her comic timing, while her impressive singing voice shone through in Easy Street.

.Annie 2011: 'Herald Express' Review
Sunday 1st May, 2011 Theatre Review
Theatre Royal, Plymouth
By Bill Stone

Can this musical ever fail? It's feel-good all the way.

It has a tear-jerker, rags-to-riches narrative about a waif in a paupers' institution. Though befriended by a wealthy man, her future is threatened by imposters pretending to be her parents in order to claim a reward.

There's loads of corn twice as high as an elephant's eye, and an ebullient bunch of scrapamuffin little girls. And a dog. Plus plenty of catchy songs ranging from kitschy tugging at the heart strings to jolly knees-ups.
