.The Plymouth Herald: Annie Is Optimistic – That's What I Love
Monday 25th April, 2011 Interview
Another new interview with Su, this one from 'The Plymouth Herald', published on Friday 22nd April.

"I can't wait to come back to Plymouth – I love it," says Su Pollard in her famous hundred-mile-an-hour delivery as she reflects on her appearance at a slightly less well-loved Plymouth landmark, the Hoe Theatre, ahead of her appearance in Annie at the Theatre Royal next week.

"About 35 years ago I was doing a play there with Tim Brooke-Taylor – Not Now, Darling – but the funny thing was we were there trying to do the play but all you could hear was the music from a carousel outside and we spent all our time trying to compete with it," she laughs.

"I just really loved the old bits of Plymouth and I'm really looking forward to exploring it all again – it will be fabulous."

.Herald Express: 'I Have Been Very Lucky That My Own Fantasy Came True'
Monday 25th April, 2011 Interview
A great new interview with Su, from the 'South Devon Herald Express', published on Friday 15th April.

"When you are younger you have a fantasy – a dream world," said actress Su Pollard. "You think about it when singing into a hairbrush. I have been very lucky that my own fantasy came true. I am very fortunate, darling, that I love my job all the time.

"I have had a very fortunate life. I'm dead chuffed with what I do. Some people aren't so fortunate. I always tell people to embrace every second because you never know when it is going to come to an abrupt halt."

There's certainly no end in sight for former Hi-De-Hi actress who made her television debut in 1974 on Opportunity Knocks, where her rendition of I'm Just A Girl Who Can't Say No from Oklahoma saw her come second – to a singing Jack Russell dog.

Whether it was the sunshine, a good day, or the success of Annie in which she is starring in, Su was bursting with positivity and energy.

.Annie 2011: 'Surrey Comet' Review
Friday 22nd April, 2011 Theatre Review
Fairfield Halls, Croydon
By Helen Barnes

There’s something about the musical Annie.

Maybe it’s because it’s set in America that it has a sugar-coated, too-good-to-be-true feel.

After all the story of the plucky orphan Annie who casts off life’s hardships with a sunny smile and a catchy tune is a tad contrived.

The irrepressible Su Pollard hammed it up as the gin-soaked orphanage manager Miss Hanningan, proving that she hasn’t lost any of her comic timing from her days in Hi De Hi.

'Best British TV' have a new interview with Jeffrey Holland. He discusses Perry & Croft and working with Su and Paul Shane.

What are you favorite memories of filming Hi-De-Hi?

"My memories of making the show are many and varied. They had me wear some amazing costumes as Spike! Some were memorable for being terribly uncomfortable but most were great on laughs! I have to confess that I never enjoyed being thrown in the swimming pool which was always freezing as we filmed on location at the camp in October/November when their season was over!”

On the day we speak he is in Derby, on tour with the musical Annie, and has spent the morning in the studio recording a Gandalf-style voiceover for a video game.

But he is looking forward to bringing the show to Croydon, where he has fond memories of performing at the Ashcroft Theatre with his co-star Su Pollard.

"I know Su very well. I worked with her at the Ashcroft long before Hi-De-Hi in the 80s, so I’ve known her forever," he says with a laugh. "We like working together, we have good fun. We are sort of looked upon as the grandparents of the company."

"This is the longest tour we have ever done," he adds. "We finish this Christmas when Su Pollard and I will be hanging up our shirts as Hannigan and Warbucks."

.Annie 2011: 'What's On Stage' Review
Sunday 3rd April, 2011 Theatre Review
Liverpool Empire Theatre
By Rebecca Cohen

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! Liverpool Empire has got the timeless Broadway musical Annie, and it’s even more spectacular than leapin’ lizards!

Full of energetic numbers, and an endless stream of uplifting choreography, this piece can’t help but bring a smile to your face. And yet, underneath it all, there still maintains a heart-wrenching storyline of the Victorian Depression; an era in desperate need of a sprightly red-headed orphan to fill it with optimism.

Something that Victoria Sian Lewis portrays just beautifully in her mature characterisation of every little girl’s dream role. Even dressed in rags, she has that special sparkle and rawness that forces you to watch her, even when the stage is full.

Equally impressive is Su Pollard as the evil alcoholic and orphanage owner, Miss Hannigan. She camps the part up superbly, tickling with her flawless comic timing and ticking all the criteria for being the villain that everybody loves to hate.

.Derby Telegraph: Forest Supporter Su
Friday 1st April, 2011 Interview
A new Su interview, from the 'Derby Telegraph', published today. Annie plays Derby Assembly Rooms from Monday.

Forest supporter Su is hoping to have Rams fans on her side for stage musical

Su Pollard's true colours maybe that of a Nottingham Forest fan but she will be cheering on the Rams temporarily while in Derby.

The TV favourite, who found fame in the 1980s holiday camp sitcom Hi-De-Hi, was brought up in Nottingham and from Monday (April 4) finds herself back in the East Midlands starring in Annie at Derby Assembly Rooms.

"While I'm in Derby I'll try and send positive thoughts to all the Rams players and see if they can do better," she says, before whispering, "but Forest are doing well and I'd love to see them back in the Premiership."

Su grew up in Nottingham dreaming of showbiz success and even predicted her own career path in a school essay.

"When I was 14, they asked the question 'Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?'. I said that I saw myself at the London Palladium on stage singing – and ten years later, that's where I was, in a charity performance.

"And from then on, I was able to get more and more professional work and now here I am. I have been very fortunate and have met some great people."
