Toyah Newsy Bits & Pieces!

March 24th, 2013

• Take a listen to some of Tom Leon’s Toyah remixes. He has added his magic touch to a variety of Toyah’s greatest songs. These tracks are not available for download but you can listen to them online here. Tom also has a Toyah fan page. (Please note that most of the previous links I’ve posted to Tom’s tracks over the last year or so are now out of date)

• Toyah was one of the Guest Speakers at yesterday’s FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) Conference 2013 in Leicester. In the past Toyah’s “speaker” gigs have mostly gone by without fanfare but yesterday a variety of photos were tweeted, Instagrammed and Facebook-ed!

• Photos of Toyah at FSB 2013 herehere and here. There’s also a short article and photo at Peter Scargill’s blog. Apparently a video of Toyah’s speech will be available online at some point too.

Federation of Small Businesses: View Toyah’s bio at the website.

Burning Shed: View their latest newsletter, which includes details on ‘In The Court Of The Crimson Queen’.

It’s Slade: The documentary Toyah contributed opinions to in 1999 was repeated again on BBC Four last night. It’s now available to watch online for the next week at BBC iPlayer.

Northern Pride 2013: Toyah plays this one day event on Saturday 20th July. View the official flyer and visit their Facebook page for regular updates.

Pop Star (A Dream Within A Dream)/mARTian cowBOY

February 25th, 2013

Another two “new” Tom Leon Toyah tracks/mixes were uploaded to house-mixes.com over the weekend: Pop Star – A Dream Within A Dream (Tom Leon Full Vocal Ultra Long Version 2013), and mARTian cowBOY (Tom Leon Extended Version 2013).

As with Tom’s other mixes, these are unofficial and for “private and promotional use only”.  Great use of Andrew’s Toyah art too ;)

Jungles Of Jupiter (Sad Android Extended Version)

February 21st, 2013

A third remix of a classic Toyah song, this time ‘Jungles of Jupiter’ from Anthem, has been made available by Tom Leon.

First it was “Awake’n Dreams: Alan Parsons Project vs Toyah Willcox” (using ‘Pop Star’), then “Let Me Go (Here It Comes Again 2012 Remix)”, and now TOM LEON brings us “Jungles Of Jupiter (Tom Leon and Toyah: Sad Android Extended Version)”.

Completely unofficial and, as with Tom’s previous mixes for “private and promotional use only”, it’s interesting to hear Toyah’s songs being experimented with. Not everyone will approve, as these are of course regarded as classics, but Tom doesn’t do anything too drastic with them!

The track is also included on the album ‘Quantam Sequences 2013’

Let Me Go (Here It Comes Again 2012 Remix)

September 21st, 2012

Tom Leon has uploaded another track to ‘house-mixes.com’ – This one is ‘Let Me Go (Here It Comes Again 2012 Remix)’, a song that was originally released in 1994 on Toyah’s Dreamchild album.

Toyah is one of Tom’s favourite singers. In 1995 he created ‘Awake’n Dreams: Alan Parsons Project vs Toyah Willcox’, two tracks that used samples from the 1981 song ‘Pop Star’. He also put both of these online earlier in 2012. More info on that in our news from April.

Awake’n Dreams: Alan Parsons Project vs Toyah Willcox

April 11th, 2012

Toyah’s ‘Pop Star’, Alan Parsons’ ‘The Raven’ and Orson Welles? This shouldn’t work, but it does!

Tom Leon has uploaded to ‘house mixes.com’ two mash-ups he created in the mid-90’s:

1995: Long before mashups or bootlegs are gone to mainstream, I created a special mix….. really handmade with discs and effect-recording:

One of my first bootleg-mixes and I like it to this day! It is a fusion between Alan Parsons The Raven and the voice of Toyah Willcox. Hope U like it?

Listen to ‘Awake’n Dreams (On A Lost City Of Mars) [Shortplay Fusion Mix]’ here, and ‘Awake’n Dreams (On A Lost City Of Mars) [Smooth House Version]’, here.
