Cheshire Online - Lakeside
Classics - Tatton Park |
| Saturday 28th
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
| The
magnificent heritage site at
Tatton Park will be staging two
spectacular open air events this
weekend. The concerts take place
at the stunning lakeside setting
of Tatton Mere with fantastic
fireworks and first class musical
artists. Tradition has seen these
hugely popular concerts sell out
for the past 10 years. On Sunday,
July 29, the 80s will return to
Tatton Park when a superb line-up
of that decadess pop stars
come together for an evening to
remember.
Bananarama
were the most successful all-girl
act in British music history
until the Spice Girls came along.
The line-up at Tatton features
original members Sara Dallin and
Keren Woodward (now married to
Wham!s Andrew
Ridgely).
The girls
were discovered by former Sex
Pistols Steve Jones and Paul
Cooke. The band went on to have
10 top ten hits which included
their debut It Aint What
You Do Its the Way That You
Do It (No 4) and Really Saying
Something (No 5) both with Terry
Halls Fun Boy Three.
Further hits include Shy Boy (No
4), Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him
Goodbye (No 5), Robert De
Niros Waiting (No 3), Venus
(No 8), Love In The First Degree
(No 3) and I Want You Back (No
5).
Belinda
Carlisle has had incredible
international success both as a
solo artist and as a member of
the Go Gos. Her hits include the
No 1 Heaven Is A Place On Earth,
I Get Weak (No 10), Circle In The
Sand (No 4), Leave A Light On (No
4), We Want The Same Thing (No 6)
and In Too Deep (No 6) to name
but a few. Now living in the
South Of France with her husband
and son, she recently released
her first new album in a decade
and the first sung entirely in
French entitled Voila!.
TPau,
fronted by flame haired Carol
Decker, had a No 1 hit with China
In Your Hands both in the UK and
US. Their other hits include
Heart & Soul (No 4),
Valentine (No 9) and the top 20
single Secret Garden and live
favourite Sex Talk. Carol Decker
was most recently seen as a
contestant and mentor on BBC
1s primetime TV show Just
The Two Of Us hosted by Vernon
Kaye and Tess Daly.
In 2006
she also took part in the
primetime ITV show Hit Me Baby
One More Time in which she won
her round and was in the final.
She has also starred in the hit
West End show Mums The Word
alongside Patsy Palmer, Imogen
Stubbs and Jennie Éclair.
Nick
Heyward is the enigmatic former
front man with 80s band Haircut
100 who had hits including
Fantastic Day, Favourite Shirt,
Love Plus One and Nobodys
Fool plus solo hits Whistle Down
The Wind, Take That Situation and
Blue Hat For A Blue Day.
Toyah,
with her unique style and look,
made a massive impact in the 80s
with her hits Its A Mystery
(No 4), I Wanna Be Free (No 8)
and Thunder In The Mountains (No
4). She won Best British Female
artist at the 1982 Rock & Pop
Awards (now called The
Brits).
She has
subsequently had an equally
successful acting and presenting
career, with many stage and
screen roles to her credit.
Glasgow
born Clare Grogan found fame as
the lead vocalist in the band
Altered Images which spawned
seven top ten hit singles
including Happy Birthday (No 2),
I Could Be Happy (No 7) and See
Those Eyes (No 11). Prior to
forming the band she was picked
to star in the cult classic
Gregorys Girl alongside
John Gordon Sinclair. She was
recently seen back on the big
screen playing the lead role of
Sandra in the independent British
film, The Penalty King, also
starring Nick Bartlett and Sam
Beckinsale. As an actress she has
also had major roles in the cult
show Red Dwarf, Bafta award
winning show Father Ted and
Eastenders where she remained for
eight months.
Tickets
for this event cost £29. Groups
of 10 people or more qualify for
a £2 discount per ticket.
Children under five admitted
free.
Tickets
are available from the box office

| Dreamscape: New
Beginnings |
| Sunday 22nd July,
2007................................................................Internet |
| Welcome to
Dreamscape V4. Not too radically
different from V3 but some
changes I hope you like. I've
retained the best elements from
previous designs and, hopefully,
improved the site with the
alterations. Not everthing is in
place as yet but should be soon.
July has been a busy month and
I've tried to catch up with
everything that's happened in
Toyahland. The 'Gallery' will
now be the place to also browse
Toyah Screen Captures from past
and present, as well as numerous
pictures from Toyah's astonishing
30 year career. 'Superfeature'
will concentrate on a specific
era or release from that career,
with a tribute to the 1982 album
'The Changeling' coming soon!
The 'Downloads' have
been removed completely and the
'Forum' now exists seperately.
The new font being used (for this
main page and subsequent updates)
is Arial. Most PCs have
this already but if you don't
please install it to enjoy
Dreamscape the way it should be.
Don't forget the 'News Archive'
has seven-and-a-half years of
Toyah news to browse, and there's
a 'Library' full of Toyah
interviews, articles, reviews and
news clippings.

Dayle |
| Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................News Clips |
Toyah has paid
tribute to Dayle Heath, who died
recently, in 'The Stoke
Sentinel': Dayle, who grew
up in Mill Hill and attended
Haywood High School, was a
familiar face to drinkers at The
Club (in Stoke).
Tributes have
been posted on The Club's website
from around the world following
news of Dayle's death.
Singer Toyah
Willcox, who met Dayle at The
Club, wrote: "Dear Dayle,
one of the most beautiful and
life loving boys I have ever met.
"My heart
breaks to think of the last
week."
Rest In Peace,
Dayle X

| Maidenhead
Advertiser - Henley Festival
Review |
| Sunday 22nd
July, 2007...........................................................Press Clips |
| The final
evening of Henley Festival
80s Party Night celebrated
the 25th anniversary of the event
by featuring three major stars
from its early years. Afternoon storms had
not affected the venue, and there
was a fabulous collection of
outfits to be seen among the
festival-goers.
Toyah bounded onto
the stage first, giving a high
energy performance of her hits
such as It's a Mystery and Echo
Beach, instantly creating a party
mood.
Belinda Carlisle
followed on with a slightly
quieter set of past successes
which gained enthusiastic
audience participation,
particularly for the finale
Heaven is a Place on Earth.
Nick Heyward
completed the trio, but
unfortunately lost some of the
momentum of the show by talking
to the band about their star
signs and not having such a
popular choice of songs. However
his last one Fantastic Day did
get everyone singing.

| Guardian
Unlimited: A Right Royal Knees Up |
| Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
A right royal
knees-up In 1977, Derek Jarman
enlisted a bunch of unknowns for
his dystopian satire, Jubilee.
Stuart Jeffries tells the story
of the film that captured the
nihilism of punk like nothing
else. Thirty years on,
many of the film's leading
participants are dead (Jarman in
1994, actor Ian Charleson, the
future star of Chariots of Fire,
who played one of those
loose-limbed sex objects, in
1990). Some are uncontactable
(Jordan was last heard of living
in Seaford, Sussex), and others
are making porn (Jubilee's stills
photographer Jean-Marc Prouveur's
last film was Fuck Fever). One,
Toyah Willcox, is cherished by a
pre-verbal demographic for
recording voiceovers for
Teletubbies.
"For me,
working on Jubilee was an
extraordinary rite of
passage," says Willcox.
"I was introduced to Derek
through Ian Charleson when we
were both working at the National
Theatre, and I was asked to go
round to Derek's flat. I was a
19-year-old public schoolgirl
from Birmingham and I knew
nothing about homosexuality or
politics. But when I got to his
flat, Derek's lover, a beautiful
French boy called Yves, was
wandering around naked. Derek was
completely sexually liberated. He
asked me if I wanted tea. There
was a script and the film may
have been called The Royal
Family. I asked, 'What part do
you want me to play?' He said:
'You'll be Mad, the pyromaniac.'
"A few weeks
later he got in touch and said:
'I'm afraid I've had to write you
out of the script because we
can't afford to have your
character.' Then he got some more
money and it was back on again.
It was all hand to mouth,
stop-start. Anyway, I did appear
in the film, thanks to Derek: I
think he had given up his own fee
to ensure I survived." The
stars of the film were hardly
well remunerated. Adam Ant
reckons he got paid £40 for his
performance as the Kid, a
Candide-like pop star lured into
Borgia Gins' cynical pop world.
"A lot of it
was filmed in his studio on the
Thames," recalls Willcox. It
was very open, naked people
wandering around. What I became
really taken with was Derek's
kindness to everyone. I don't
think I've ever before come
across unconditional love and how
powerful that can be. All of us
would have done anything for him
in the film. I found myself
making a film which was a bit
like being in a party."
