Toyah - The Club : 26 July 02The Club :: Stoke On Trent :: 26th July '02

Toyah rocked Stoke On Trent's 'The Club' to its' rafters on Friday 26th July 2002. Toyah blasted onstage at midnight after the DJ played the awesome title track from Toyah's recent EP "Little Tears Of Love", and a biiiiiiig introduction from Ruby.

Looking fitter than she ever has, and at least ten years younger than her genuine age, in the copper breast plate and miniscule mini skirt that helped make April's "Here & Now" Tour hers, Toyah greeted the huge crowd (and a giant "Calamity Jane" cutout onstage) and launched into "Good Morning Universe"

Toyah happily chatted to the crowd between songs and even announced that Kate was the winner of "Big Brother 2002". Ruby joined Toyah onstage for "I Want To Be Free" clutching the chorus cue cards that have become an integral part of the song.

Toyah's voice sounded powerful and she hit, and held, some impressive notes while singing her classic hits. It is plainly obvious that she really is enjoying performing music again, yes even "It's A Mystery" which we all know isn't a favourite of hers! A brilliant night was had by all and Toyah certainly helped Ruby's "Wild West Birthday" shenanigans go with a BANG!! - Yeehah! All too soon it was over and Toyah caught the first stagecoach outta the windy city and headed for the black hills of Dakota! (okay, okay I know - sorry, far too many "Calamity Jane" jibes in the one sentence).

As we all know, "Calamity Jane" is Toyah's priority for the best part of the next year, but when that is done and dusted Toyah should seriously think of doing a university tour of the UK. There is definite interest in her as a musician in 2002 and a tour of those type of venues would easily sell out.

Good Morning Stoke! Big Sister shiny Toyah

Interesting Fact: Toyah first played at 'The Club' on 9th August 1996. This was to celebrate the venues "Grand Opening Party". Since then Toyah has made a number of memorable appearances at the Stoke On Trent hotspot!! Ruby's 2001Toyah last played at 'The Club' on Friday 22nd June 2001. Many thanks to Michael O'Brien for these pictures of Toyah
