October 2001 and Toyah confirms
on her Official website (via her diary
entry) that she will indeed be one of the
artists taking part in the 'Here And Now'
2002 Arena Tour of the UK. Everything goes quiet again
while the first 'Here And Now' Tour,
featuring Kim Wilde, Paul Young, Go West,
Nick Heyward, Heaven 17, T'Pau and
Curiosity Killed The Cat gets underway.
On November 8th
the much anticipated dates for 'Here And
Now 2' are announced, with eight venues
confirmed including the Glasgow SECC, not
part of the first tour schedule.
Acts confirmed are Adam
Ant, Hadley, Norman & Keeble (ex
Spandau Ballet), Belinda Carlisle, ABC,
Howard Jones, Toyah and China Crisis.
Tickets for a couple of
the dates go on sale on Friday 9th
November via Ticketmaster and other
online agencies. A few days later tickets
for all venues are on sale online (except
Glasgow). The dates and venues are:
18 April 2002 : Cardiff
International Arena
19 April 2002 : Brighton Centre

25 April 2002 : London Wembley Arena
26 April 2002 : Sheffield Arena
27 April 2002 : Manchester Evening News
Arena
28 April 2002 : Glasgow SECC
Around mid November
leaflets promoting the tour start to
appear in magazines and at some of the
venues. The first is very similar to the
one used to promote the 2001 tour. Both
feature pictures of Toyah and the one on
the right mentions songs by all of the
artists. Toyah is, of course, represented
by 'It's A Mystery'. Toyah is
spotted at Wembley Arena on November 15th
checking out what sort of reaction this
year's 'Here And Nowers' (!) are
receiving.
On the 20th
November a Press/Photo Call is held to
announce and publicise the tour. It takes
place at the Cafe De Paris in Picadilly,
London. (thanks to Ant Lib Online for the screen capture &
pics of the leaflets above). Almost all
of the artists who will take part in the
tour next April; Toyah, Belinda Carlisle,
Adam Ant, Howard Jones, China Crisis etc,
were present. The Conference is reported
on various News programmes throughout the
UK, and Toyah appears on London
Tonight to talk about the tour.
21st November, and many
British newspapers give some sort of
coverage to the Press Call, particularly
The Sun (for some reason).
Eighties?
More like forties
Cream of the pop ...
this lot were huge - once
ITS hard to
imagine but this motley crew of
forty-somethings were once the cream of
pop. Now these Eighties superstars are
poised for a British comeback. Adam Ant,
Spandau Ballet, Belinda Carlisle, Toyah
Willcox, Howard Jones and China Crisis
will appear together on the Here &
Now Tour next April.
Toyah said: Its
like a big family reunion.
Here we look at how
they were and what they have
become.
TOYAH WILLCOX, 43,
famous for I Want To Be Free and Thunder
In The Mountains, still sports a peroxide
hairdo and is a Tellytubbies voice.
The feature
that appeared in The Sun newspaper was
also made available as a news item to
view online at their website.
Click here to visit the site. There you can read the full
article, view pictures of the gang in the
eighties, and as they looked at the press
call, plus have a titter or two at the
'then and now' comments on all the
artists.
London newspaper
'Metro' also gave coverage to Toyah, Adam
et al.
Metro covered
the Press Call by concentrating mainly on
Toyah and Adam Ant and featured a cool
picture of them both together. Toyah
said; "I haven't seen some of these
people for 20 years. It's like a big
family reunion."
(Thanks to Tracey
Murray for this pic).
The Mirror and Daily
Star also ran news stories about the
Press/Photo Call, concentrating almost
solely on Adam Ant.
By the end of November
the 'Here And Now 2002' Tour is all over
the place, online at a multitude of
websites and Toyah even mentions she is
touring next year when she appears on Liquid
News. Adam Ant makes a number of TV
appearances at the end of November too,
including GMTV, all to promote the
tour.
Ananova also covers the 'Here
And Now 2002' tour as a news item and
includes a great picture of Toyah, Adam
and Belinda from the Press Conference.
Eighties stars announce
New Romantic tour
Adam Ant has joined a
host of other '80s stars to launch a New
Romantic revival.
Spandau Ballet, Belinda
Carlisle, Toyah Willcox, China Crisis and
Howard Jones announced a string of dates
for their Here & Now Tour 2002.
Adam Ant performed an
impromptu version of his hit Goody Two
Shoes, singing: "I do smoke, I do
drink, what don't I do?"
He said: "I'm
doing this tour because these are some of
my favourite people. It's great to see
them all again and this tour is going to
be a knockout."
Toyah, now 43, said:
"It's really weird. I haven't seen
some of these people for 20 years.
"It's like a big
family reunion, like being back on Top Of
The Pops, a real blast from the past."
With straight blonde
hair and grey trousers, a glittery black
top was the only hint of her colourful
past.
Spandau Ballet singer
Tony Hadley was joined at the launch by
the band's drummer, John Keeble, and
saxophone player, Steve Norman. The trio
failed in a legal bid two years ago to
claim royalties from the band's
songwriter, Gary Kemp.
They will be performing
some of Spandau Ballet's classic hits,
including Gold and Through the Barricades
during the tour.
The 42-year-old singer
said: "We're back because we love
music and we love performing. It's good
to meet up with everyone again. I don't
think anyone's really changed that much."
The Here & Now Tour
2002 will take place in April next year
at arenas in Cardiff, Brighton,
Birmingham, Newcastle, London, Sheffield,
Manchester and Glasgow.
As did the femail.co.uk website...
Ready for an eighties
revival?
Are you ready to
revisit the eighties? Certain of the
decade's maturing stars certainly are as
they get ready to tour the country in a
New Romantic revival. Just when you
thought you were safe from bolero jackets
and ra-ra skirts, a motley crew of what
was the cream of eighties pop prepare to
grace a stage near you soon.
Adam Ant, Toyah
Willcox, Belinda Carlisle, Tony Hadley
and Howard Jones are just some of the
familiar faces who will be performing
together in a string of dates under the
Hear And Now tour banner.
They will be joined by
the likes of former Spandau Ballet
members Steve Norman and John Keeble and
China Crisis - aka Gary Daly and Eddie
Lundon - on the tour, which will take
place in arenas in Cardiff, Brighton,
Birmingham, Newcastle and London next
April.
Launching the tour
yesterday, Toyah looked the opposite of
her eighties glam-punk self, sporting
long, blonde hair and grey trousers.
'It's like a big, family reunion, like
being back on Top of the Pops, a real
blast from the past,' said the singer.
For others, however, time seemed
to have stood still. Smoking a cigarette,
Adam Ant - real name Stuart Leslie
Goddard - performed an impromptu version
of his hit Goody Two Shoes, singing: 'I
do smoke, I do drink, what don't I do?'
To celebrate their
return from obscurity, we take a look at
what Adam and Toyah have been doing for
the past two decades.
Adam Ant : Think of
Adam Ant and you think of Prince Charming
and Stand And Deliver. He was the epitome
of eighties glam pop until the middle of
the decade and then - nothing. Adam took
an extended break from music after
starring in the Live Aid concert in 1985.
According to him it was a 'natural place
to stop'.
Since then he based
himself in LA for four years, took up
acting and has appeared in 16 films as
well as at Manchester's Royal Exchange in
an adaptation of Joe Orton's Entertaining
Mr Sloane. Recently he has gone back to
writing songs and may release some solo
material next year.
Toyah Willcox : The
original eighties wild child, Toyah was a
hero among teenage tearaways with her
orange punk hair and outlandish hits such
as I Want To Be Free and Thunder In The
Mountains. Nowadays she is more well
known for her roles behind the scenes.
Since turning her back
on her music career, she has appeared as
a presenter on The Good Sex Show Late,
the Holiday Programme and Face Value. She
has also provided voices for the
Teletubbies and appeared in several West
End plays.
Another online article about the
tour was found at the Australian music
website, Soundbuzz. They also mention a
live compilation album.
Adam Ant Leads 80's
stars in New Romantic Tour
Adam Ant has formed an
army of 80s stars to launch a New
Romantic revival. The one hit wonder has
come together with Spandau Ballet,
Belinda Carlise, Toyah Willcox, China
Crisis and Howard Jones to announce a
string of dates in Britain comprising the
Here and Now Tour 2002.
Adam explains of the
comeback, "I'm doing this tour
because these are some of my favourite
people. It's great to see them all again,
and this tour is going to be a knockout."
Toyah, now 43, adds, "It's really
weird. I haven't seen some of these
people for 20 years. "It's like a
big family reunion, like being back on
Top Of The Pops, a real blast from the
past."
And former Spandau
Ballet front man Tony Hardley, 42, says,
"We're back because we love music
and we love performing. It's good to meet
up with everyone again. I don't think
anyone's really changed that much."
MMM sure it's not for the dwindling bank
balances?
The Here and Now Tour
2002 will take place in April next year
in England. No word of it hitting our
shores, but keep your eyes peeled for a
live compilation album!
Even the online version of the
UK newspaper the Daily Star have given
the tour a mention...
